March 16, 2008:
The Reunion Band
Known for its tight vocal harmonies and solid traditional bluegrass sound, the Reunion Band features veteran Boston-area musicians Dave Dillon (rhythm guitar), Richard Brown (mandolin), Margaret Gerteis (acoustic bass), Lauck Benson (banjo) and Art Schatz (fiddle). All members sing lead and/or vocal harmonies.
Around since 2002, the band takes its name from the fact that its members have played together off and on and in various configurations for over thirty years. Guitarist and lead singer Dave Dillon is perhaps best known for his seven-year stint with the renowned Joe Val & the New England Bluegrass Boys. Mandolin player Richard Brown, along with Dave, played with the Hudson Valley Boys, and with the Stony Lonesome band. He is one of the leading Monroe-style mandolin players in the region. Bass player Margaret Gerteis also played with Dave and Richard in the Stony Lonesome band, and with other groups. She is best known for her high lead and tenor harmony singing. Banjo player Lauck Benson performed with several groups and currently sits in with Boston City Limits. He can play banjo in virtually any style, contributing a Scruggs-style accompaniment. Fiddle player Art Schatz has played with several local bands, including Southern Rail, and plays in a bluesy style. Together, the Reunion Band promises to entertain us with a down home evening of traditional bluegrass right here on the Cape.
