April 1, 2012: The Old Time Bluegrass Singers

Old Time Bluegrass Singers We're very pleased to welcome back the Old Time Bluegrass Singers, who are no strangers to Woods Hole. Some have sung here more than once with other bands. In fact, "Old Time Bluegrass Singers" was the original name of "Joe Val & The New England Bluegrass Boys," a WHFMS favorite in the early years. That band originally featured mandolin player Herb Applin, often singing high tenor over Joe himself. Today's Old Time Bluegrass Singers band came together in 2003. Along with Herb on mandolin and fiddle are Dick Bowden on guitar, Lillian Fraker on bass fiddle, Robert Fraker on guitar and fiddle, and Terry McGill on banjo. Like the original group, they'll be performing old time country and traditional bluegrass, from Bill Monroe to Ralph Stanley, and from Kitty Wells and Don Stover to the Louvin Brothers and the Carter Family. Join us to reminisce and relish the tight harmonies and honest, straight-up sound of the "new" Old Time Bluegrass Singers.
