January 1, 2017: The Vox Hunters

The Vox HuntersThe Vox Hunters, Armand Aromin and Benedict Gagliardi, are award winning musicians who share a love of traditional Irish music as well as songs from within and outside the realm of folk. With hand-crafted fiddle, concertina, banjo and a pair of well-matched voices, The Vox Hunters present an array of driving dance tunes and an unorthodox collection of songs. Armand, who studied violin from age three, is now a maker of Cremona-style violins in Providence, RI, while Ben, who was self-taught as a teen, teaches concertina at the Connecticut Academy of Music. Together, their blend of voices and instruments is uncannily close, as they effortlessly trade melody and harmony. Of their eclectic repertoire, they say, "We don't aim to fuse genres, push boundaries, or redefine folk music. We simply sing songs we like in exactly the way we like to sing them . . . and allow our ears a long musical leash."
