Falmouth Historical Society was founded in 1900 to preserve the history and heritage of Falmouth. Its extensive collections include over 12,000 artifacts, 60 pieces of fine art, 2,500 textiles and 20,000 photographic images. In addition, there are approximately 700 reference volumes and 112,000 documents available for historical and genealogical research. The Society's administrative offices and research library are open year-round. Visitors are always welcome; an email or telephone call in advance helps guarantee that the person you need will be available.

The Society operates Falmouth Museums on the Green, a two-acre complex that includes two 18th-century houses, a newly reconstructed hand-pegged barn and three separate gardens maintained by the Falmouth Garden Club. The two houses contain a variety of exhibits including a Colonial kitchen, a Victorian parlor (charming!) a 19th-century doctor's office (chilling!), whaling tales and maritime industry collections. A special permanent exhibit details the life of Katharine Lee Bates, Falmouth-born author of America the Beautiful. The barn houses the visitors center, museum store, hands-on activities and try-on costumes in Colonial and Victorian styles. Walking tours, trolley tours, tea in the garden, family activities and Saturday morning gallery talks round out the Museums' summer programming.

Museum hours and a complete listing of the Society's year-round activities are available on the website. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the gardens during daylight hours.
