Ms. Pettibone has been teaching art at the Cape Cod Conservatory in West Barnstable to the delight of all our families for many years. We are excited to annouce that this spring, Ms. Pettibone is offering fun & creative art classes for children at our Falmouth campus as well. Ms. Pettibone designs her art classes for young people to have enough structure to assure accomplishment and enough freedom to allow for individual expression. She believes early art education builds life-long learning skills, such as critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Please visit our website for full details. Dates, times, and rates vary.

All Things Black and White Art Reception

The Cape Cod Conservatory's Falmouth campus presents "All Things Black and White," a mixed-media art exhibit. Artists interested in contributing pieces for the show should contact Robin at the Conservatory (508-540-0611). Artwork drop off dates are Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26, 10:00am - 5:00pm. There is a $10 fee per entry with no limit on the number of entries. All pieces must be wired for hanging. Among other works of art, we welcome wall and ceiling hung sculptures, as well as large works of art. The opening reception for "All Things Black and White" is on April 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. During the reception, Gary Girouard will perform neo-classical compositions from his acclaimed Naked Piano series. The evening's reception includes dessert and beverages. Since this is a black and white art exhibit, we invite you to attend in your favorite black and white attire!

Highfield Hall presents Robert Wyatt lecture/recital: “Chopin in Paris” Saturday, April 10, 10 am to noon Highfield Hall, 56 Highfield Drive, Falmouth Robert Wyatt, Director of Music at Highfield Hall, will present a lecture/recital entitled “Chopin in Paris” on Saturday, April 10 from 10:00 am to noon. The program was previously presented at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., where Dr. Wyatt has been a lecturer for more than 15 years. Wyatt’s live piano performance will highlight the morning’s program during which he will play at least 10 Chopin works. Tickets are $20 per person and are available for purchase online at www.highfieldhall.org or by calling (508)495-1878.

In addition to presenting superb traditional concerts, this sensational piano trio presents discussion-recitals which offer listeners new perspectives and insights. Violinist Charles Sherba, instructor at the Conservatory and concertmaster of the Simon Sinfonietta, performs with his wife, violist Consuela Sherba, who serves as Artistic Director of Aurea. Mr. Sherba holds the Heidi and Chester Kirk concertmaster chair of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, where he has served as concertmaster since 1987. He is a founding member of the Rhode Island-based ensemble Aurea, and teaches at Brown University and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School. He has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony, the New Hampshire Symphony, the Vermont Symphony, the Boston Classical Orchestra, the Charleston String Quartet, and served as concertmaster of the West Virginia Symphony, the Atlanta Ballet, and the Atlanta Chamber Orchestra.

Sweet and Low Down at the Cotton Club Saturday, May 1, 10:00 am– 12:00 pm Highfield Hall, Falmouth A reprise of a lecture by American music specialist Robert Wyatt previously presented at the Smithsonian Institution. Wyatt will perform rags by Scott Joplin and Joseph White, and George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. He will play recordings of Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Ethel Waters, Benny Goodman, and others. Video and newsreel clips of the ‘20s, ‘30s, and 40’s meld into a musical collage of the Cotton Club’s heyday along with videotaped reminiscences about Ellington by Alvin Ailey, Jean Bach, Cab Calloway, Kitty Carlisle, Mercedes Mercer, Ruth Ellington, and John Hammond.
